FOOD EVENT: The Atlantic Canadian Seafood Reception

Celebrating 75 years of friendship between Canada and the Philippines with a taste of the Atlantic!

This reception showcases premium seafood flown straight from Canada, a testament to their commitment as a safe and reliable supplier. 

There were also honourable people present at the event such as Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Lawrence MacAulay, and The Honourable Kent Smith who is the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture. There were also government officials, industry leaders, and suppliers present at the event, fostering connections and sharing the bounty of the ocean.

For the welcome drink, they served an Atlantic Canadian Sling which is a Nova Scotia Gin, Nova Scotia wild blueberries, and calamansi.

The menu they served consists of barely cooked shrimp ceviche, cilantro avocado cream, toasted bread, stewed mussels, assorted cold seafood platter, beer battered fried red fish bites with tartar sauce, crab potato cakes with peperonata, mini lobster rolls, fried seafood kare-kare ravioli, and seafood paella.

They did a cooking demonstration of the seafood paella, featuring different seafoods like lobsters and shrimp, fresh from Atlantic Canada. The event was spearheaded by Chef Thomas Carey from Nova Scotia Community College, and Chef Joseph Gomez of De La Salle-College of St. Benilde.

The Atlantic Canadian Seafood Reception not only celebrated diplomatic ties but also served as a testament to the shared love for fresh, delicious seafood. With innovative dishes and a focus on sustainable practices, the event showcased the potential for continued collaboration and exchange between Canada and the Philippines in the years to come.
